Sonia "Janeth" Polo Sotomayor, 57, passed away on June 28, 2021 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital after two years battling cancer.

Sonia was born on February 23, 1964 in Cochabamba, Bolivia to her parents Jorge Polo and Soraida Sotomayor de Polo. She was the youngest of her 5 siblings Claudia, Guillermo, Augusto, Cesar, and Eduardo. After graduating from high school in 1982 she married Orlando Lopez and began raising a family.

Her three children Alexandra, Diego, and Pia were the love of her life. There was nothing she wouldn't do for them. Sonia sewed their costumes for school plays, travelled to their sports games, and cooked all their favorite meals. In addition to being a homemaker she was a savvy business woman. She took over the family business of running Fontana di Trevi, the local sauna, which she ran successfully for 15 years.

Sonia dedicated her life to taking care of her family. As her parents grew older she took care of them as well. In 2016 after her mother passed away she moved to Ashburn to be closer to her children and especially her beloved grandchildren Dominic and Adeline. Sonia always loved the United States and fulfilled a lifelong dream of hers by moving here.

Sonia enjoyed the outdoors and spent countless hours planting flowers in her garden. Her room was full of brightly colored orchids. She escaped the pandemic last summer by leading her grandkids on hikes around the area. She had an adventurous spirit and would always take the "fun" path with her grandkids no matter how difficult. Her love for life and kind soul was admired and will be missed by all.

Visitation will be at the Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 11:00AM where funeral services will start at 12:00PM.  The burial will follow at Ketoctin Cemetery in Purcellville, VA.
