Stephen Nelson Malick, 56, a longtime Loudoun County resident, died Sunday, June 1st at his home in Haymarket, VA. Mr. Malick had been battling lung cancer since he was diagnosed in January.
He was assistant director of operations and maintenance for the Loudoun County Sanitation Authority, when he retired in 2003 after 32 years of service.
An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He coached girl's basketball and softball for the Loudoun County Parks and Recreation Department.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ellen Winston Malick; a step-father, Randolph Keyes of Purcellville; daughters Jessica Malick of Leesburg and Kelly Ciaburri of Purcellville; a brother, Roger Malick of Deltaville, Va.; two sisters Louise Malick of Fredericksburg, Va., and Julie Cooper of Leesburg and 4 grandchildren. Other survivors include step-brothers Randy Keyes and Reid Keyes, step-sister Rachael Viar and half sister Rebecca Pathirana. His mother was the late Maxine Keyes of Leesburg.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 2 to 4 PM and from 6 to 8 PM, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.
