Susan Yoskovich Sparrow
January 27, 1963 – March 5, 2025
Sue Sparrow passed away peacefully but suddenly and unexpectedly at home on March 5, 2025. She was born on January 27, 1963, at Women's Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Jeff Sparrow, her sister Lorraine Yoskovich of Berkley, Michigan many nieces and nephews, many grand nieces and grand nephews, and Zeke (HR Paradise's Sweet Yellow Jersey Sun MH).
She graduated from Hazel Park High School in Hazel Park, Michigan in 1981. After high school she attended Michigan State University (MSU) graduating in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Geography. Following graduation from MSU Sue joined Dewberry & Davis in Fairfax, Virginia supporting the FEMA National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and developing flood maps in support of the NFIP. She left Dewberry & Davis in January 2005 to pursue other interests.
While at Dewberry & Davis she and Jeff, who also worked at Dewberry & Davis at the time, met and began dating and were married on May 3, 1997. Sue enjoyed being active and enjoyed playing softball, bowling, golfing, gardening, and hiking. Jeff actually asked her to marry him while on a hike in Shenandoah National Park along the White Oak Canyon Trail to the falls at the bottom where he proposed and Sue accepted.
Their vacations and trips typically were oriented around the outdoors whether going to the Outer Banks in the fall of every year with a close group of friends, Hawaii, National Parks in the west, or last September to Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Sue's life revolved around taking care of their yellow Labrador Retrievers, Bodie, Yukon, and Zeke. After getting Zeke, Sue and Jeff became involved in the retriever community and competing in American Kennel Club hunt tests. Neither Sue nor Jeff had previously trained a dog for hunting or retriever competitions but talked to others, watched videos, and read books. Sue would take Zeke every day to run training drills. She contributed greatly to Zeke becoming titled as a Master Hunter. In addition to taking care of Zeke she was the one that took care of the house and was willing to take on any house repair. She even completely remodeled her sister Lorraine's bathroom. If she did not know how to do something she would do the research and learn how to do it.
Sue was truly one of a kind. She was an incredible wife and mother to Bodie, Yukon, and Zeke, and she embodied what it meant to be a great friend. Sue had a big heart, looked out for all the neighbors, and was always ready to help anyone with any task. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Jeff and family will receive guests at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, Virginia on Saturday, March 22nd beginning at 11AM, with a funeral service starting at 12:00 PM. Following the service friends and family are invited to a reception at Ashburn-Sterling Lodge No. 288 (43881 Waxpool Road, Ashburn, Virginia) to continue the celebration of Sue's life.
