Tamala (Tammie) Rachell Houchins
Tamala (Tammie) Rachell Houchins, 39, of Sterling and Berryville, VA, died suddenly at the Potomac Center Nursing Home, Arlington, VA on Saturday, November 29, 2008.
Tammie was born July 29, 1969 in Fairfax County, VA. She was the daughter of the late Thomas A. Houchins, Sr. and Rachel Ann Ainsworth Houchins Heppes, Sterling, VA.
Tammie spent her early childhood in Leesburg, VA, attending Douglas Elementary and J. Lupton Simpson Middle School. After moving to Sterling, she attended Sterling Middle and Park View High School. She graduated from Loudoun County High School's Adult Education Program. She was a member of the Fairfax County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Tammie enjoyed life and expressed it in both her employment and life experiences. She played Little League Baseball and was a member of the Loudoun County marionettes Majorettes. Her interests were expressed in the variety of jobs she enjoyed as an employee of the Loudoun County Parks & Recreation Department; storage facility manager; animal caretaker at local veterinary offices and several others. She was a defender of the weak, abused, and particularly the elderly, an animal lover, a true friend to all and devoted daughter and sister. Even as she struggled to fight her diabetes and renal failure, she continued to burn a bright light.
Besides her mother, survivors are a sister, Rebecca (Ed) Kummel and a brother Thomas (Tad) A. (Susan) Houchins, Jr., both of Leesburg, VA, maternal aunt, Rosalie Mason of Sterling, VA; and the love of her life and home companion David Bruner, Berryville, VA.
