Thomas Harvey Hood of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on October 19, 2018.  He was surrounded by his family and attended to by his hospice team.

Tom was born on May 22, 1947 at Walter Reed General Hospital, the son of Brig. Gen. & Mrs. Reuben C. Hood Jr.  Tom's early years were spent as an "Air Force brat" in South and Central America.  The family returned to the DC area when Tom was about ten years old.  The family lived at Bolling Air Force Base until 1959, when Maj. Gen. Hood retired.

Tom's next few years were spent in Durham, North Carolina; and Cookeville, Tennessee.  While the family lived in Tennessee, Tom attended Castle Heights Military Academy where he graduated in 1965.  After high school, Tom attended the Virginia Military Institute and the United States Military Academy for two years.  He then transferred to the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering.  Tom met and married his wife of forty-seven years while they both attended Georgia Tech.

After college, Tom worked for Martin Marietta and Honeywell for eighteen years.  Tom also worked as a contractor for the Federal Government in the capacity of Senior Systems Analyst.  Tom served in the US Air Force Reserve for thirty-seven years and retired in 2003 at the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Tom attained the rank of Eagle Scout at age fifteen, following in his father's footsteps.  As an adult, he served as a Cub Scout den leader, then Assistant Scout Master.  Tom also participated in Civil Air Patrol and Sea Cadets.  Tom's final volunteer work was as a children's small group leader for over twelve years at McLean Bible Church.

Tom is survived by his wife, Judith Hood; his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca & Robert Barba; his son, Steven; his sister-in-law, Mary Hart; and a niece, Laura Hart-McKenzie.

A service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018  at 3:00pm at McLean Bible Church, McLean, VA.  A reception will follow service.  Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

A graveside service will be held on February 27, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Arlington National Cemetery.
