Thomas Mack Powell, 70, of Crenshaw Co, AL, went to be with the Lord peacefully on July 6 th after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
Tom was born on February 13 th , 1950 to B.W. and Mauouida Powell in Crenshaw Co, Alabama . He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps for 22 years, attaining the rank of Captain. While serving in the Vietnam War he was assigned to the 3 rd Recon Bn, Co D. Upon returning from Vietnam , he became a Drill Instructor to the Aviation Officer Candidate Indoctrination Battalion. He later contributed to designing, programming and testing the implementation of the Reserve Retirement Repository (RRR) for the Marine Corps. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he continued his work on the RRR project as a contractor for CSC until full retirement.
Tom's experience in the Marines played a very important role in his life. He frequently pointed out that the Marines taught him the value of teamwork, discipline, patriotism, and investing in a cause larger than himself.
Tom was a brave and loyal marine, as well as a loving and patient husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Carmen Powell; his daughter Lisa Hernandez; his son Greg Powell; his stepdaughter Lily Lindquist; his two brothers, Larry and Herman Powell; his sister Carolyn Senn; his eight grandchildren who loved him very much: Cruz, Makailyn, Joshua, Christopher, Valerie, Ashley, Johnny and Heather; his seven great grandkids; and many other relatives and friends.
Tom lived a full and happy life devoted to his family that he deeply loved and cherished. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
