Obituary

Thomas Lynwood Schelhorn passed away August 12, 2026 at the age of 69.

He was the loved and cherished youngest of his surviving siblings Geoffrey Schelhorn and his wife Betty, Robert Schelhorn and his wife Terry, and Rebecca Dunlop. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Jason Schelhorn, Katharine Schelhorn, David Schelhorn, Robin Brock, Daniel Werner and Kyle Werner along with many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents George August Schelhorn and Betty Jane Schelhorn Martin and his dearest companion – a Jack Russell named Cricket.

Tom had a very full and adventurous life before multiple sclerosis imprisoned his body but not his love, humor and zest for life. He was a Christian and carried that faith with him throughout his life. In many ways, his journey reflected the words of 2 Timothy 4:7:“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” He attended grade school in Leesburg Virginia, played Freshman football at George Washington Middle School and graduated from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria Virginia. He was living in Leesburg when he passed away. He was self-employed as a plumber for many years and also worked as a “cowboy” installing shielded rooms in embassies and other government facilities around the world. He loved scuba diving and cherished his Harley and his membership in his motorcycle club, The Boozefighters

He had a generous, mischievous smile and very twinkly, beautiful blue eyes that lit up a room. His soul was joyful, playful and childlike. Always quick with a nickname, an affectionate bear hug or a smart remark, his giggle and laugh were infectious and kept him out of trouble most of the time. While he was not a father himself, he was the best Uncle Tommy anyone could ask for. He was always ready to babysit, rough house, or just stop by, always bringing fun and joy along with him.

Family and friends will gather on September 2, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with a memorial service starting at 1:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, VA 20176.
