Thomas Albert Williams, 88, of Leesburg, VA, passed away peacefully at his home on April 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 12, 1936, in Philadelphia, PA, Tom was the eldest of five children of Albert and Elizabeth (McConville) Williams. He grew up in the Pennypack neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia and attended St. Dominic Parochial School and Northeast Catholic High School, where he excelled both academically and athletically.

A proud patriot, Tom served his country with honor as an Aviation Electronics Technician, Petty Officer First Class in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958. Following his military service, he used the GI Bill to earn a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, launching a distinguished 30+ year career with IBM. His innovative work led to several patents, and as a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), his notable contributions left a lasting impact on the field.

Beyond his professional achievements, Tom was a devoted husband, father, and community member. He found great joy in coaching his son's soccer and basketball teams with the Reston Youth Athletic Association (RYAA), fostering both athletic skill and character. His love for Irish traditions, family gatherings, and spirited singing brought warmth and laughter to those around him. In his later years, he was known for offering heartfelt blessings to all he encountered.

Tom's deep faith and commitment to service were reflected in his membership with the Knights of Columbus, through which he continued to give back to his community.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Anne (Horkan) Williams; his children: Larry Williams of Falls Church, VA; Kevin (Robin) Williams of Vienna, VA; Kathleen Williams of Springfield, PA; and Stephen Williams of Leesburg, VA; his grandchildren: McKenzie (Andy) Heindel, Joey Williams, Tommy Williams, Bobby Williams, and Michael Williams; and his siblings: Albert Williams, Diane Schieber, Elizabeth (William) Schneider; and several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Williams.

His life was a testament to love, dedication, and faith—a legacy that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at St. John The Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 101 Oakcrest Manor Dr NE, Leesburg, VA.

Interment will follow at Saint John the Apostle Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation .
