Velma Lydia Hurst, age 92, formerly of Sterling, VA and Camp Hill, PA, died March 23, 2010, at the Heritage Hall in Leesburg, VA.
Velma was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 26, 1917, the daughter of William and Lydia (Drengwitz) Weiss. She married Dale W. Rhoads in 1947 in Pittsburgh. He died in August 1970. In 1974, she married Chester (Chet) A. Hurst, Jr. in Camp Hill. In 1996, Velma moved to Sterling, VA, where she resided until 2008, when she moved to Heritage Hall in Leesburg, VA.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, an infant daughter Sandra Rhoads and her brother William Weiss. She is survived by her daughter Donna (John) Cherundolo of Sterling, VA; her daughter Karen (John) Kirk of Millersville, MD; and her grandchildren Marcus Cherundolo of Ashburn, VA, Julia Cherundolo of Blacksburg, VA, Sarah Kirk of Paris, France, and Christine Kirk of Columbia, SC.
Interment will be in the Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA. A Memorial Service celebrating Velma's life will be held at a later date at the Community Lutheran Church in Sterling, VA.
