Virgil Eugene "Gene" Hose, 82, passed away on October 30, 2024, in Deale, Maryland. Born on October 2, 1942, Gene dedicated his life to his faith, his family, and his farming. Gene managed Janelia Farm and later worked as a Mechanical Engineer for various companies that acquired Janelia Farm. Known for his hardworking nature, Gene was not only a skilled farmer and engineer but also a wise and humble man with a knack for fixing anything handed to him. A devout member of the Abundant Life Church of God in Hamilton, VA, Gene was actively involved in church activities, helping whenever he could and uplifting everyone with his jokes and songs. His love for classical country music and gospel resonated through his joyful spirit. Gene's hobbies included fixing things, visiting family and friends, mowing grass, and crafting songs. His playful humor and musical talents brought joy to all who knew him.
He is survived by his sister, Edna Woodward; brother, Stanley Hose; daughters, Tina Heller (Steve Heller), Cindy Hose, and Susan Jewell (Steve Jewell); son, Glenn Hose; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hose; parents, Rachel and Cleal Hose; and several siblings.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd., NE., Leesburg, VA 20176 where a service will begin at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Lake View Cemetery, Hamilton, VA
Gene will be remembered as a beacon of love, faith, and humor, deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
