Virginia Lawton, Washington, DC, died on January 6 at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington. Born May 1, 1925 in Oakland, Maryland, she was the daughter of Arthur and Bessie Lawton. She attended Hagerstown Business College and American and Pace Universities. She worked in public relations with several trade associations and was Corporate Secretary of the Reader's Digest Association in Chappaqua, NY from 1975 until her retirement in 1987. An avid reader and world traveler, she was an active member of the Women's National Democratic Club and a generous supporter of many other organizations and causes.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Eleanor Ann Englander, thirteen nieces and nephews to whom she was a devoted and loving aunt, Beth Lawton, Richard (Kathy) Lawton, Ellen Lawton (William Irvin), Arthur (Jo) Lawton, Carol Lawton (Jere Wickens), Deborah (Karl-Heinz) Scheuber, Rev. Robert Lawton, S.J., John Michael (Paula) Lawton, Kevin (Colleen) Lawton, Bruce (Teresa) Lawton, Carol Christhilf, Anne Gunn, Susan Lawton, grand-nieces and nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews, and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings Cecelia Morgan, Lewis, Otis, Kenneth, Robert, and John Lawton and by her niece Nancy Chambers.
A private celebration of Virginia's life will be held at a later date.
