Obituary

Virginia Alice Watkins Boerlin died at Heritage Hall in Leesburg, Virginia on
November 16, 2010. She was born on December 12, 1915, the daughter of
James Michael and Mina Mae Watkins of Emporia, Virginia.

Virginia graduated as valedictorian from Greensville County High School in Emporia,
Virginia. She attended William and Mary College. She moved to Arlington, Virginia after her marriage to William Wallace Rich, an educator in Arlington County. They had
two sons. After the sudden death of her husband in May 1956, Virginia became a dental x-ray technician studying at Georgetown University.

In 1963 she married Col. William B. Short and retired to Clarksville, Virginia and then Jacksonville, Florida, until his death in 1983.

In 1984 Virginia married Edwin A Boerlin in St. Augustine, Florida. They moved to Leesburg to be near her son, Michael Rich, where she lived till her death. Edwin A. Boerlin died June 27, 1999. She was a member of the Leesburg Presbyterian Church.

Her oldest son William Wallace Rich died at the age of 68 on September 2, 2008 in Spokane Valley, Washington. She is survived by her son, Clayton Michael Watkins Rich of Leesburg, Virginia and four step-children; Barbara Faye, Linda Short, William B. Short, Jr. and James Boerlin. She had ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service for Virginia in Emporia, Virginia. Memorials may be sent to Leesburg Presbyterian Church, 207 West Market Street, Leesburg, Virginia 20175.
