Wanda, Dever (NEE RUTKOWSKI ) of Ashburn, VA left this world Sunday, March 27, 2011 to join her beloved husband, Eddie. Wanda was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 7, 1916 and as a young girl, moved to South Seaville, NJ where she spent many happy years on the family farm. One New Years Eve a knock on her door changed her life forever when she met her beloved husband Edward H. Dever. Wanda and Edward eventually settled in Pleasantville, NJ where they raised their 13 children. Wanda often described those years as the best years of her life. Aside from the joy of raising her children, Wanda was an accomplished seamstress and an avid gardener, In her later years, Wanda made sure never to be without a baby in her arms as she often spent time looking out for her precious grandchildren. Wanda and Ed retired in Miami, Florida in 1991 and most recently, Wanda lived in Ashburn, VA with her daughter Rita and her family.
Wanda was predeceased in death by her husband Edward H. Dever, Jr., her parents Adam and Irena Rutkowski, her brother Zygmunt, and her sisters Irene, Adela, and Henrietta. Wanda is survived by her 13 children: Edward, Rita DiPatrizio, Sonia Matthews, Zygmunt, Roger, David, William, Henrietta, Maria McCabe, Patricia, Kevin, Donna, and Regina as well as her 33 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Her smile, words of wisdom, and gentle ways will be missed.
Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home 201 Edwards Ferry Rd., NE, Leesburg, VA 20176 on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 6-8 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 46639 Algonkian Parkway, Sterling, VA 20165. Burial will be private. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Heritage Hall Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, 122 Morven Park Rd. NW, Leesburg, VA 20176.
