IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wendell Jackson
Lawson
December 20, 1952 – November 29, 2024
Wendell Jackson Lawson, born 20 December 1952, peacefully passed away at his home in Lucketts on 29 November 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, Zane and Marie (née Frye) and brother Christopher 'Punky' Lawson. Wendell is survived by his brothers Jeff (Kat) Lawson and Keith (Karen) Lawson, children Wesley Lawson and Adrienne (Adam) Burton and grandsons, Jake and Charlie Burton.
A hard worker all his life, Wendell worked alongside his father with their family business, Lawson Pre-Cast Septic Tanks, through the mid 1980s while also doing excavation work. He worked for American Airlines for a short-time before returning to the construction industry working for Glen Construction as a heavy equipment operator. The owner of Glen Construction, 'Whitie' Hubert, bought 'Copper Honk', known today as Tarara Winery. Wendell worked directly for Whitie as the foreman leading the creation of most of the initial infrastructure to include the winery cave, home foundation, lake, all irrigation systems, and many other projects related to the nursery and vineyard operations. In 1994, he began his career with Loudoun Water where he spent the next 25 years until retirement.
An avid outdoorsman, Wendell enjoyed hunting and fishing with his closest friends and family. Throughout his lifetime he raised and trained several rabbit beagles and supported early conservation efforts raising and releasing quail in Loudoun County in the 1980s as an attempt to replace the waning population. More recently he focused his free time on turkey hunting in the spring, fishing in the summer, and watching his grandsons play football in the fall. A beloved brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend; he will be deeply missed by many.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, December 9th, 2024 at Faith Chapel located at 14188 Chapel Lane, Lucketts VA 20176. Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather for a catered luncheon and to share memories of Wendell at Lucketts Community Center, 42361 Lucketts Rd. Lucketts VA 20176.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, https://brhospice.org/donate/, or the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), https://your.nwtf.org/members/donate/.
