Willard "Whiz" Walters
Willard Walters, 91, of Leesburg, VA passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2020. Born 1929 in Scranton, PA to the late Michael and Catherine (Barclay) Walters. Willard was raised in Scranton, PA and was a graduate of the former Central Scranton High School. Before moving to Leesburg, VA in 1991, he resided in Scranton PA, Bridgeport CT, and Port Chester NY. He was employed by the Sikorsky Aircraft Company in Stratford and Bridgeport, CT for over 30 years. He enjoyed the friendship of many coworkers and the work he did at Sikorsky. After retiring and moving to Leesburg, Willard joined the Optimist Club of Leesburg where he felt fortunate to have met so many wonderful people within the organization and the community. Willard had a profound love of music. He could often be heard whistling, humming, singing or grabbing a dance partner at all the family celebrations. He also enjoyed playing golf. He cared deeply for others, always a smile on his face and greeting to everyone he came across. He was affectionately referred to in the neighborhood as the "Mayor of Wildman Street."
A loving, and caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, and neighbor; his passion was his family. Always devoted to his grandsons; he was their "PA", confidant and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Carol Fuss Walters; his son John and his wife Lesley of Trumbull, CT; daughter Sandra Walker of Leesburg; his sister Margaret (Donald) Love of Scranton, PA; grandsons Ethan Walker, Leesburg, Wyatt Pendleton and Stephen Walters, both of Trumbull, CT. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, He loved every one of his relatives and always had a smile on his face when reminiscing about his family. He also leaves behind 3 sad grand-dogs.
In addition to his parents, Willard was predeceased by his sisters, Evelyn (Joseph) Lynott, Catherine (John) Weisenfluh, Doris (Stephen) Fritch, Helen Walter, Isabella Walters, Emma Gursky, Phylis (Ralph) Colborn, and a brother Michael Walters. He was also predeceased by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the professional and caring nurses and medical technicians at INOVA Loudoun Hospital in Lansdowne and the Hospice Team at Capital Caring Health. Their dedicated care for Willard and his family is deeply appreciated.
Arrangements will be handled by the Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. A service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at 11 AM at the Funeral Home. Family and friends are requested to gather at 10 AM.
