WWII Navy Veteran, Leesburg Native
William (Bill) F. Carlisle, of Leesburg passed away on December 31, 2009 at INOVA Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Virginia. He was 88 years old.
He was born on October 31, 1921 in Leesburg, Virginia to the late Jess Carlisle and Edna Bell Carlisle.
Mr. Carlisle was a veteran of WWII and was stationed at Pearl Harbor when attacked in 1941. Mr. Carlisle served 11 years in the U.S. Navy and three years in the U.S. Army. After an honorable military discharge, he was employed at the U.S. Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. as a Pipe Fitter and retired from the government in 1977.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lillian A. Carlisle; one daughter, Linda Mullins and her husband Foyster Mullins, Jr; two granddaughters, Sherry Mullins Polend and her husband Greg Polend and Tabatha Mullins; three great-grandchildren, Gregory Polend, Nicolette Polend and Collin Mullins-Saunders. He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Lawrence and her husband Willie Lawrence of Tavars, FL and Dorothy Wrightman of Odenton, MD; two sisters-in-law, Rose Jewell of Round Hill, VA and Margie Beales of Paeonion Springs, VA and lots of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Harold Carlisle.

Funeral services will be held at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, Virginia on Wednesday, January 6 at 2 p.m. with internment immediately thereafter at Union Cemetery in Leesburg.
