William Curtis Gadd Jr.
May 8, 1965 - September 11, 2023
William (Bill) Curtis Gadd, Jr., loving and devoted husband of Louise McGill Gadd, son of the late William Curtis Gadd Snr. and Sylvia Gant Gadd, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2023, after a long illness. Bill is survived by his loving wife, his two children, Elizabeth Ann, and James William, and his brother Timothy M. Gadd, and sisters Wynne S. Gadd, and Teri R. Posey.
Bill was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and attended Dobie High School where he was a long-distance runner, and member of the school choir, math, and debate club. Upon graduation, Bill attended the University of Houston, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, followed by his Master in Electrical Engineering. During his educational years, Bill supported himself by working at Brown Sugar's BBQ restaurant with his brother Tim by his side. Bill enjoyed watching the Houston Astros play and listening to The Beatles.
In 1995, Bill decided a change was in order. He moved to Dallas to work for Raytheon. Shortly after settling in, a unique opportunity arose for Bill to get a security clearance and venture into a new world, Australia (Alice Springs to be precise.) Throughout 1995 and 1996, Bill traveled numerous times to Alice Springs to support the mission there and after these trips he decided to accept a full-time position there. In November 1996, he returned to Alice Springs to live there permanently.
During those earlier temporary visits, Bill was introduced to Louise. They began their romance and later became engaged in December 1998, and married in July 1999. Together, her and Bill, nicknamed 'The Gadd Man' by Louise, enjoyed traveling, camping, playing golf, and spending time with family and friends. In March 2003, Bill found unconditional love with his daughter Elizabeth, and then his son James in September 2006. Bill enjoyed designing and supervising the building of their first family home in 2004. Once complete, many hours were spent in happiness and contentment, swimming in the pool, or playing on the grass. Bill greatly enjoyed teaching the kids to hit golf balls, drive a cart, swim, read, and starting their math education early.
During 2010, another opportunity found Bill, this one involved moving to Virginia, U.S.A. It was a massive undertaking moving the family across the ocean, however, Bill and his family quickly settled comfortably into new employment, new home, new town, and new country with the help of new friends. Bill brought his genius to new work with his typical calm, sharing, generous approach. He adapted quickly and well to the new work tempo while mentoring scores of engineers in the ways of the "Gadd Man". Bill was widely respected for his knowledge and willingness to share it with anyone who listened.
Bill was an exceptional man, kind, generous, courageous, scary intelligent, with a sense of purpose and moral compass that supported an amazing professional career and his family. Bill was a man of few words, however quick with a cheesy joke, a bit of gossip, and a cheeky smile.
'The Gadd Man" will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all those who were fortunate to work with or meet him. His final goodbye is being observed in a small family service, followed by memorial services in Leesburg, VA and Houston, TX.
