William "Bill" Moreland Jennings, Jr. passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018. Bill was 88 years old.
One of three children, he was born on May 18,1930 in Bluefield, West Virginia. Bill was the proud son of William and Mary Bradley Jennings. During his school years he was very active in sports. Bill graduated from Dublin High School and went on to attend VA Tech, where he was involved in ROTC.
Bill married Elizabeth "Betty" Kincer Jennings on September 8, 1951. Betty and Bill were married 66 years. They were blessed with four children, Mike, Tim, Steve and Susan. They attended the Methodist Church in Herndon where Bill played an active role. He held the positions of both VA Lay Leader and Lay preacher. Throughout the years he was an owner of construction and office furniture companies. His company built the first building in Reston, VA, the original Sales Office. He also worked on the construction of Dulles International Airport.
He and Betty owned a Quarter Horse Breeding farm that featured top stallions Lucky Bar (TB), Wimpy Leo and Sutters Berseem, AAA, AQHA Champion. They also managed prominent horse auctions on the East Coast.
Bill served as President of the Virginia Horse Council and the Virginia Quarter Horse Association multiple times. He was inducted into the Virginia Quarter Horse Association (VQHA) Hall of Fame in 2013. Bill has served as a National Director to the American Quarter Horse Association since 1969. He served as a lobbyist to assist in passing Pari-Mutuel racing in Virginia and funding for the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at VA Tech in Blacksburg, VA.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents William Moreland Jennings, Sr. and Mary Bradley Jennings; his brother Thomas Thompson Jennings; and his sister Sue Rutledge.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Elizabeth "Betty" Kincer Jennings along with children William Michael "Mike" Jennings and wife Stephanie, Timothy "Tim" Neal Jennings and wife Cathy, Steven Gary Jennings and wife Susan, and Susan Elizabeth Dube and husband Robert.
He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Kendall Linn (Jeremy) Kimble, Travis Brooks Jennings, Tyler Michael Jennings, Lindsey Ann Jennings , Colleen Elizabeth (Jay) Hensley, Angela (Harley) Reed and Tiffany (Bret) Flynn; along with great grandchildren Emerson Linn Kimble, Addison Elizabeth Hensley, Kennedy Rae Hensley, Hayden Reed, Huntley Reed and Madison Flynn; and brother-in-law William "Bill" Barton Kincer.
Family will receive friends between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Thursday evening, June 14, 2018 at the Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, Virginia 20176. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, Round Hill, Virginia.
