Leesburg — Col. William T. Kaser, 87, died Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Inova Loudoun Hospital following a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Phyllis, his son, Thomas and two grandchildren, Chelsea and Emily.
Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. He joined the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1952 after graduating from the University of Toledo with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He served in Korea from 1953-1954 before going to Fort Benning, GA for Combat Infantry School. After graduation, he was stationed in Baumholder Germany from 1959-1961. Upon returning to the states, He was stationed at Ft Leavenworth, KS before settling in the Washington DC area with several posts at the Pentagon.
In 1965, he attended the University of Pittsburgh to pursue his MBA. After graduation, we was sent to Vietnam with the rank of Major for his first tour from 1966-1967. He would return to Vietnam as a Lieutenant Colonel and as a Battalion and Aviation Group Commander, from 1971-1972. During both postings, he flew helicopters and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in March 1975 for his efforts.
He attended the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pa, graduating in 1975. After returning to the Pentagon, he was assigned to a post at NATO in Brussels where he worked on a committee to coordinate military logistics between participating countries.
Upon retirement from the army in September 1982, he went to Georgetown University where he graduated with a Master in Accounting and subsequently received his C.P.A.
After applying his accounting skills in a couple of positions, he went to work as a school bus driver in Fairfax and then Loudoun County, after he settled in Leesburg. He drove for the county from 2004-2010. He often said that his time as a driver, was among his most enjoyable.
A viewing will be held at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg on July 21st from 6-8 before internment at Arlington Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project, Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
