William F. Keller, 99, son of Henry Herman Keller and Olga Blattner Keller missed his 100th birthday by 3 months and 2 days. He passed from this life to everlasting life on March 19th. Born and raised in NY, NY, he spent at least half his life in Elmont, NY, til he moved to Lovettsville, VA, after the passing of his wife, Eleanor Keller.
He is survived by his daughters, Edwina Maureen Engelien of Highland, NY, and Barbara Keller Baker of Lovettsville; Edson Baker; his 5 grandchildren: Sara Roney (Fredericksburg), Timothy Baker (Reston), Kirsten Torbert (Kailua, HI), Jonathan and Evan Baker (Lovettsville); and his 2 great-grandchildren, John Roney IV and Abigail Roney.
In almost 100 years of life, he saw America go from horse drawn vehicles to the cars he loved to drive, held many varied jobs, and continued to live life to the fullest to the end. He worked from the age of 14 through his early 80's. He was the youngest member of the musician's union in NYC and played in the Junior Philharmonic as well.
He totally changed when he became a real Christian 4 days after his 90th birthday.
Once in Lovettsville, he became active in the Leesburg Senior Center, and served on its advisory board as treasurer and later, president. He collected day old bread and cakes from stores and restaurants and brought it to the Center to help seniors; led a Bible study; taught and shot pool; and gave chess lessons there as well. As part of the ministry of Emmanuel Bible Church of Frederick, MD, he ministered at a nursing home twice a month. He was known and loved by many and is sorely missed.
A well-attended memorial service was held for him on March 28th. Anyone so minded may make a contribution to Tomorrow Clubs at TomorrowClubs.org in his name.
