William H. (Bill) McMillan, 90, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2015, in Bay Village, Ohio, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. A native of Clarksburg, West Virginia, Mr. McMillan had lived in the Washington, D.C. area for many years before moving to Ohio to be near his son, Dr. David W. McMillan.

Bill McMillan enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and served with the Fifth Amphibian Tractor Battalion in the Pacific Theatre. On June 15, 1944, he was wounded while delivering troops to shore during the American invasion of Saipan. On March 17, 1945, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Margaret Frankhouser, while recovering at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Bill and Margaret then spent several years in New Bedford, Massachusetts, where he attended Swain School of Design. Afterward, Mr. McMillan completed a 30-year career as an illustrator with the federal government, most of that time at the U.S. Information Agency where he helped produce Amerika Illustrated, an American magazine sent to Russia and Poland during the Cold War.

Mr. McMillan was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Margie, in 2002. He leaves behind one sister, Betty Jean Clark, of Bridgeport, West Virginia.
In addition, he leaves one son and daughter-in-law, David and Chris McMillan, of Grafton, Ohio, and two granddaughters, Sarah and Katie. He also leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Richard Moreno of Sterling, Virginia, and three more grandchildren, Andrew and wife Crystal, and William and Joanna Moreno.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Paralyzed Veterans of America.

a Time of visitation will begin at 10am until time of service at 11am on Saturday February 14, 2015 at Colonial Funeral Home 201 Edwards Ferry Road Leesburg, VA.

Mr. McMillan will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery on March 26, 2015 at 3:00pm.
