William David Simpson, age 78, passed away on June 5, 2022 at the Ashby Ponds Senior Living Community in Ashburn,  Va. Bill wanted to be remembered as a kind and respectful person. Everyone who knew him would say he was both of those things as well as a handsome man with a wonderful smile. A native of Alexandria, Virginia, Bill was a 1962 graduate of George Washington High School, where he was a fullback for the Prexies football team. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1969, much of that time stationed in South Korea. He earned a B.A. in History from George Mason University and worked for AT&T for 30 years. Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather—coaching soccer, teaching two teenage daughters how to drive, and playing like a kid with his four grandchildren. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Charlene Trenary Simpson; daughters Kristen Creighton (Paul) of Alexandria and Kelly Peters (Bill) of Ashburn; grandchildren Lily and Alex Peters and Eva and Sylvie Creighton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, lifelong Alexandria residents John William Simpson and Margaret Rudd Simpson, and his elder brothers John Rudd (Jack) Simpson and Robert Carlton Simpson.

Bill will be laid to rest during a private family graveside service at Alexandria's Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. An online guestbook is available at colonialfuneralhome.com
