Obituary

In Loving Memory of Yun-An Tang

Loving husband to Hui-Chin Tang for over seventy years, Yun-An Tang was born on March 29, 1924 in Penglai City, Shandong Province, China. He passed away peacefully in his home in Leesburg on the morning of February 7, 2015.

Yun-An studied aquaculture at the university in Hokadate, Japan, and at Auburn University. He taught Aquaculture in National Taiwan University. He was then appointed Director of Fisheries: Experimental Stations in Tainan, Taiwan. From 1965 to 1978, he worked as a fisheries expert and project manager for the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy, Philippines, South East Asia, and Africa. From 1978 to 1989, Yun-An joined the World Bank as a Project Officer, where he worked on large-scale aquaculture projects in developing countries worldwide. After retiring from the World Bank, he worked as a part-time consultant to the Bangladesh Grameen Bank from 1989 to 1993. He received many commendations and awards from various countries and professional societies. Yun-An also published numerous articles in many professional journals, which have been cited often. He is an internationally renowned expert in his field.

He is dearly missed by a large and loving family. He is survived by his wife Hui-chin; by four children, Letty and Son-in-Law Simon; Patrick and Daughter-in-Law Jenny; and by Colin and Sinjin.

He is likewise deeply missed by grandchildren Eugene and wife Jessica, Irene and husband Aren, Simon Jr., Samantha, and great grandchildren Aria and Ida.

Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, VA. 20176.

A Funeral service and celebration of his life will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on February 13, 2015, beginning at 12:00 PM. Burial to follow in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, Virginia.


He traveled the world, but in the end, he found his heart and home in his Leesburg homestead.
