IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronald Douglas
Speakman
May 19, 1961 – July 14, 2019
On Sunday, July 14, 2019, Ronald Douglas Speakman, loving husband, father and friend, passed away suddenly at the age of 58.
Ron was born on May 19, 1961 in Inglewood, California to Esther Joanne Speakman and John Bellavia, Sr. Ron's service to the community began at an early age and by age 12 he began caring for an elderly widow. In 1979, he joined the United States Army as a Military Policeman and served his country. Ron continued his law enforcement career and served as a Police Officer in Alexandria, Loudoun County, and Leesburg, Virginia from 1983 to 1991. He received several life saving awards, valor awards and was honored as Police Officer of the Year.
He then went on to run and operate a business with his wife Katy until 2011. Instead of retiring, Ron built upon his career of helping others. He went to law school and became an attorney. He devoured information and never stopped learning.
He and his wife Katy provided a loving home to his two sons, Jeremy and Daniel. Ron was deeply committed to all that he pursued. From his farm to the people he touched, Ron loved to make things grow and to help people succeed in their passions. He loved his vegetable garden; his farm animals and his farm. He also loved history. He especially loved a good row about history or politics and somehow always managed to get the last word- with a grin, a smile and a twinkle in his eye. Ron was a kind, gentle and compassionate man who made a difference in the lives he touched. He always started a good story with, "I'll never forget this time…". He will be profoundly missed.
Ron was preceded in death by his sister, Sherrie Mae Bellavia; father, John Bellavia; and mother, Esther Joanne Speakman.
Ron is survived by his wife, Katy; children, Jeremy Bellavia (Anne), Daniel Speakman; granddaughter, Penelope; brothers, John (Kelly) and Joseph Speakman; sisters, Maureen Waite (Chris), Julie Logan (Jimmy) and numerous nieces, nephews, stepsiblings, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on July 26, 2019 from 11am – 1pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road, Leesburg, VA. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
